Nakedness. Typical opinions and stereotypes

It may sound strange, but I came to nakedness unconsciously and by accident. Why strange? – Answer me “how many your friends is there who consider being naked as a usual state? That’s obvious, minor or rare individuals.

I’ve got through this path with no external directions, and with the direction full of mistakes, distractions, fears and the stuff of that sort. Certainly, I precisely see my first “naked” attempt that occurred as a kind of social protest as a whole and self-protest in particular. Then, the process, more or less, began stabilizing, coming along naturally with clear points why I’m following and also what is changing inside me and around.

Until I heard the documentary of Dr. Keon West about “The benefits of nakedness”, it had been too complicated to install the right tools of nudity for me. There was a lot of “the right” and “the wrong” ideas with which I faced into my mind. It resembled a traffic light with so well-known with its green, yellow and red colors. At that moment I was somewhere between the yellow and the red where the red one is a point of departure which I’ve just left.

Dr. West’s research depicted the controversy of “the naked issue” demonstrating wide variety of opinions as well as different spread cultural points of some countries and religious views.

I suppose that’s quite important if before we move further I’m going to share with you my relatively recent experience on one of wild beaches in Bali, Indonesia. It might help in revealing some popular stigmas and delusions.

Along the coast not jammed by people I wasn’t able to hurt someone’s feeling strolling naked or in turn people fully dressed up couldn’t damage my own fragile world.

Then suddenly a couple of two wanderers appeared on a distance with wooden sticks and sneakers on the foot – the most essential thing on the beach like a swimming pool next to the ocean. Not funnily enough, they both were dressed up, enjoying extremely heating rays of the sun.

When we crossed by our eyes they both at once turned heads away as if I could instantly dissolve.

After there was a following dispute:

        — Why is he doing that? — Asked a man.
        — Ain’t into answering. Come and get to know! – a bit nervously respond she.
        — That is good idea! Then capture me with him as well!
        — Are you in your mind?

However, the man had already been on the way to me. He waved the hand and began bravely and confidently:

        — Hey, man! Enough weird, to be honest, glancing at you. After all you absolute naked!
        — Definitely, my clothing out. Anyway, that’s pretty bizarre you much more naked than me even being dressed up from head to foot…
        — Seriously!?

I left his question without answer and gave him what he wanted – a photo, which would probably be posted on any social nets or showed to friends with the next descriptions “me and crazy freaking man on the edge of the Earth”. That’s pretty close to the truth, meanwhile.

        — Dear, would you like a snap with him? – Suddenly the man threw a question in the air addressed it to his love.

I’ve never seen a woman in such state as she was. Her phenomenally deprived of life face became a result of her total confusion and shock. She couldn’t open her eyes and take a look at my side at all, as I believe it was impossible and more vital unacceptable for her to see something else besides my private parts of the body. So doubtless, she refused his proposal and they disappeared.

That experience gave a crystal understanding to me that some of the society aren’t cope with their prejudice or their unknowing something – first of all unknowing of themselves. Thus, much easy to escape from it even when you’ve already faced with. No one bothers about “much deeper” circumstances of such acting.

If we dive deeper, then we may reveal that there is several people’s fears, stereotypes, and the total ignorance as a conclusion – all in the mind. You may agree or not, nevertheless the following example depicts the above-mentioned statement. When you have to solve a problem or make a decision being not interested in, you are usually faking the absence of the necessity – simply ignoring or looking through as if it as a ghost, as of it’s not existing.

I would like to comment on that: when something is invisible, that doesn’t mean it is just imaginary, not existing in the reality. Because if you don’t see, but can hear means you have a proof of its existence; or if you don’t hear but you can see means the sense. In case if you are not able to see and hear you are able to sense, that means you have a proof of its existence in any case.

Back to our main topic, being naked means being confident about your body and mind – inward and outward appearances. It means to know how you look objectively. The matter doesn’t have to do with how perfect you are or strong physically. Here is rather the question of accepting yourself, the capacity of overcoming own fears.

The logical conclusion is mentality — a crucial state of human nature. There is hidden lots of boxes that frighten people, and sufficient numbers of them prefer not to open them. Only one minus of that, putting off for a while is not resolving your problems but deepening them.

You may not agree with the above. That makes a sense. Them what do you say about tolerance of total embracing? Colors, races, appearance differences, cultural peculiarities – all these aspects in terms of the 21st century policy must be accepted by people as a state of human diversity. We are coming to the following: the variety is natural as it takes roots the nature.

In addition, one key moment more, naked we all the same in spite of nationalities.

Again and again, I return to this: why are people so obsessed on nudity? Why is it so “visually” noticeable?

According to the Dr. West’s research, respect for people means respect for their appearance, including body, so that where the logic turns to the wrong direction.

Pay also attention to that, there is no equanimity between nudity and sexuality. Therefore, immorality of the issue disappears at one moment.

A wrong stereotype if you are comfortably wearing nothing it means you lead an uncontrollable sexual life. Obviously, no proven connections are there. Exceptions demonstrates the problems of other matters.

Finally, haven’t you contemplated that more often people dressed up look much more sexually than without clothing? Observe that question; it might help to disclose something new on that topic.

We were born naked. Clothing were the secondary.

In addition, body, in general, is “a set of bones and muscles”. It is a jammed wardrobe for our clothing, which sometimes should be unpacked.

Wayan. The Man on the beach

This is Wayan.

A man, I’ve encountered on a beach by accident, who’s suffering from Parkinson’s disease.

Wayan is mostly walking along the beach collecting seashells and small coconuts. The first is a basis for his natural hand-made bracelets, each of those takes 1,5 — 2 hours, and the second — for coconut bracelets, each piece of which he cuts manually.

I say it again, Wayan has Parkinson’s disease that means his head and arms are struggling to be calm and easy controlled. His speech also is pretty faltering. Surprisingly, he is able to communicate in English clearly though. I’d say he has to.

Looking at his eyes you undoubtedly might see the Man — not limited, not thrown away on the edge of the Earth, not suffering mentally.

In spite of hurdles and difficulties, Wayan is spending hours on making bracelets. He’s deeply immersed in this activity and really bothering to create items perfect, so each detail of his arms — a kind of masterpiece, as for me and not only for me.

If you are aware of Parkinson’s affect the body and abilities, then you accurately realize how sometimes challenging to express emotions or do some motions for people with this disease. As a example, if you were a witness to Wayan’s riding a bike, you would be immediately in shock, as he seems not to control anything ahead of and around – after all his head is always up.

Undoubtedly, this man could’ve complained about so many factors, he’s not doing it at all though.

His eyes are full of life. Full of hope. Full of love to people.

To be open, every time I come to the beach I hope to encounter him. To ask him to unpack all goods and begin our dialogue where there’s almost no place for bargain or something of that sort.

In the reality, some describe him as «in physical disorder», however it’s more preferable to saying that «the inner order» is much more significant. Certainly, Wayan is in tremor outwardly, although inwardly he is in total quiet state. He has to make himself smile despite his facial muscles that are trying to limit. Moreover, he has to make himself interact with people being aware that there is a chance to be misunderstood.

Nevertheless, he doesn’t have to make himself live a normal life as the life is not only physical process. And what is the normal?

Being beside him is seeing a pure bliss, a pure life. That passage is not about Parkinson’s disease. It is about rather the man’s inner strength.

The feeling of life, if you will.
